A phrase we've all heard and regurgitated dozens of times in our lives, it shook me to the core this time. "You get what you get," I repeated to myself. This time it sounded so final. This is what it is and there's nothing you can do about it. Says who? Who's to say I should be ok with what I get? Who says I can't change what I get? You decide what you want in life or if you will settle with what you get.... Competing in Today's Changing Business World & What Makes a Great Competitor By Chrisavgi Sourgoutsis My Past Competitor Andrew Carnegie once said, "And while the law of competition may be sometimes hard for the individual, it is best for the race, because it ensures the survival of the fittest in every department." Every since I was a little girl, I've been obsessed with the idea of competition. Looking back now as a 20-something adult, I think it has to do with the fact that my first language was Greek. From the first to the sixth grade, another teacher would pull me away from my classmates to participate in a one-on-one program called English Second Language (ESL). I never understood why I couldn't grasp simple concepts as quickly as the others could and I felt inadequate. I felt the need to work twice as hard just to keep up. And while my reality is very different today, in some small way, I still feel like that.... |
